How do I fix this candle burn on wood furniture?

I set a small candle in a glass holder on a nice wooden step stool. The candle ran out and the hot glass left a perfectly round burn on the wood about three inches across. I have sanded the black off, but you can still see where the burn was.

Do I have to refinish the whole thing, or is there a simple way to fix the spot? How can I match the stain perfectly? Are there any wood markers that will do the job?

ANSWER

You can get wood putty stain pencils from your local hardware store. You should be able to stain the wood back to its original color. If not you will need to refinish the top.
