Tile job: Can I apply thin set and tile on top of the wood floor?

Can I apply the thinset on top of plywood and set my tile or should I put thin set then hardibacker more thinset and then my tile?

ANSWER

You need a sturdy surface to put tile on. Place a cement board recommended for wood sub-floors and secure it per the recommendations. You then can put thin set and the tiles on this sub floor, other wise the tiles can crack and break.
